GEORGE C. PELBANO PLAYGROUND
Philadelphia, PA
Pelbano playground is designed to be a public resource for the whole community, with features that encourage children, teens, adults and seniors to be more active and socially connected. The project includes a multi-use court, water play, and a 2-5 age and 5-12 age playground. Site improvements, including benches and increased tree canopy, insure comfortable spaces for caregivers and support longer play duration.
A large arched community swing serves as a play feature highlight, providing eight swing seats for multiple ages and abilities. Studio Ludo’s National Study of Playgrounds has found that adults were most physically active when playing with children, and swings are the most popular play equipment for all ages. Water play was also a favorite of all ages to engage together. Pelbano playground includes a splashpad with ground jets and surface features.
This project was designed in partnership with OLIN, SciTek Engineering, and Mark Ulrick MEP. Peblano playground, as part of the George C. Pelbano Recreation Center improvements, is a ReBuild project.
